She shares her experiences as she transitioned from her childhood thoughts and beliefs to her current testimony of the gospel. Along the way she has held on to her continued love of family and has found that the knowledge of the gospel has opened her mind and brought her new blessings. I already had a religious background, and my standards were very much the same as Mormonism growing up, so once I got to know the Church I felt comfortable.
Why is the name “Jehovah’s Witness” found nowhere in the New Testament, if that is God’s divine name for His people under the new covenant? Why would God wait almost years to suddenly start using the name “Jehovah’s Witness”.
Each local “class” or ecclesia came to recognize him as “Pastor,” although geography and Russell’s writing and publishing activities prevented more than an occasional pastoral visit in person. Inevitably, Russell’s increasingly divergent teachings forced his followers to separate from other church bodies and to create a denomination of their own. Beginning, as he did, in a small branch of Adventism that went to the extreme of setting specific dates for the return of Christ and the Rapture, Russell went farther out on a limb in by openly rejecting the doctrine of the Trinity.
His earlier mentor Nelson H. The writings of Barbour and Paton that Russell had helped publish or distribute were Trinitarian in their theology. And the Watch Tower itself was at first vague and noncommittal on the subject. It was only after Paton broke with him in , and ceased to be listed on the masthead, that Russell began writing against the doctrine of the Trinity. By the time of his death , Charles Taze Russell had traveled more than a million miles and preached more than 30, sermons.
He had authored works totaling some 50, printed pages, and nearly 20, , copies of his books and booklets had been sold. Followers had been taught that Russell himself was the “faithful and wise servant” of Matthew But he lived to see the failure of various dates he had predicted for the Rapture, and finally died on October 31, , more than two years after the world was supposed to have ended, according to his calculations, in early October, His disciples, however, saw the World War then raging as reason to believe “the end” was still imminent.
They buried Russell beneath a headstone identifying him as “the Laodicean Messenger,” and erected next to his grave a massive stone pyramid emblazoned with the cross and crown symbol he was fond of and the name “Watch Tower Bible and Tract Society. According to instructions Russell left behind, his successor to the presidency would share power with an editorial committee and with the Watch Tower corporation’s board of directors, whom Russell had appointed “for life.

They also believe that, in the meantime, God demands unconditional obedience to the teachings of the Bible. Members of the Church devote time and energy to sharing their ideas with others. They do not vote, participate in politics or join interfaith groups.
Jehovah’s Witnesses are taught that all other Christian churches represent “apostate Christendom,” and only the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society (which is the spiritual leadership of the Jehovah’s Witnesses) can be trusted.
Barbour ; later that year they jointly produced the book Three Worlds , which combined restitutionist views with end time prophecy. The book taught that God’s dealings with humanity were divided dispensationally , each ending with a “harvest,” that Christ had returned as an invisible spirit being in inaugurating the “harvest of the Gospel age,” and that would mark the end of a year period called “the Gentile Times,” at which time world society would be replaced by the full establishment of God’s kingdom on earth.
Thirty congregations were founded, and during and , Russell visited each to provide the format he recommended for conducting meetings. By the s, Russell’s organization maintained nearly a hundred “pilgrims,” or traveling preachers. He identified the religious movement as “Bible Students,” and more formally as the International Bible Students Association.
His election was disputed , and members of the Board of Directors accused him of acting in an autocratic and secretive manner. The book, published as the posthumous work of Russell, was a compilation of his commentaries on the Bible books of Ezekiel and Revelation , plus numerous additions by Bible Students Clayton Woodworth and George Fisher. In , he instituted the appointment of a director in each congregation, and a year later all members were instructed to report their weekly preaching activity to the Brooklyn headquarters.

When a Catholic falls in love with a Jehovah’s Witness, it’s time to ask how much she and her boyfriend should compromise. I’m 23 and have fallen in love with a Jehovah’s Witness. We’ve been.
He was a wonderful father and certainly considered by all to be a good man. He and my Mom passed on their love of God and love of the Faith to me. While my Dad was a knight in shining armor to me, it was also probable, or at least possible, that he was doing time in Purgatory. The thought that he may be suffering inspired in me the deep desire to relieve that suffering. Praying for the souls of the dead is a tradition which goes back to our Jewish heritage.
Judas Machebeus collected silver to send to Jerusalemto be offered for the sins of those fallen in battle. He understood that nothing unclean or defiled could stand before God and therefore provided for the offerings for the souls of those who had died so that they could see God. Readingof the Psalms bears out this understanding: Our Catholic heritage is no less rich in the existence of purgatory and the tradition of praying for the souls of our beloved departed.
Both the New Testament and Church Councils enlighten our understanding of purgatory. The gospel of St. Matthew describes the parable of the unjust servant in which our Lord tells us that our debts must be paid. Paul says that we are saved only through fire 1 Cor. Peter likens our trials to gold being tested by fire 1 Peter 1:

He was raised a Congregationalist, but at the age of seventeen he tried to convert an atheist to Christianity and ended up being converted instead—not to outright atheism, but to agnosticism. Some years later he went to an Adventist meeting, was told that Jesus would be back at any time, and got interested in the Bible.
The leading light of Adventism had been William Miller, a flamboyant preacher who predicted that the world would end in When his prediction again failed, many people became frustrated and withdrew from the Adventist movement, but a remnant, led by Ellen G. White, went on to form the Seventh-day Adventist Church.
Is divorce applicable for a jehovah witness and a catholic who was married in jehovah ceremony?
At the age of 31, an unexpected realization set in — thus beginning my personal journey to the Catholic Church, my home. Peering back into my childhood, however, I realize that my exposure to Catholicism actually began as a child. My father was in the Army so our family traveled around quite a bit. I was born in San Francisco, California, where my father was stationed in
Policies[ edit ] Advice to members[ edit ] The Watch Tower Society has published information on how to protect children from sexual molestation, such as the articles, Protect Your Children in the October 8, edition of Awake! These articles focus on prevention, and do not specifically state that a child or its parents should contact the police in the event of molestation.
They also suggest that, in some countries, “the legal system may offer little hope of successful prosecution. The Society maintains that this two-witness policy is applied solely to congregational discipline and has no bearing on whether a crime is reported to the authorities in countries where this is mandatory. Since , statements by two victims of separate incidents by the same perpetrator may be deemed sufficient to take action and impose internal sanctions. DNA evidence, medical reports, or information from forensic experts or police that proves sexual abuse may possibly be accepted as a valid “second witness”, however critics argue that, without mandatory reporting for all accusations of abuse regardless of the local laws, such evidence could remain undetected.
Elders are encouraged to treat persons reporting this type of memory with kindness, but not to pursue the case unless further proof is found. Anyone found to have sexually molested a child, based upon the criteria established by the organization, and deemed by the elders to not demonstrate sufficient repentance is disfellowshipped from the congregation and shunned. Sex offenders are still permitted to participate in the congregation’s house-to-house preaching. According to the Watch Tower Society’s spokesperson, J.
Brown, such ones are only allowed to preach when accompanied by a responsible adult.

BlockedUnblock FollowFollowing 21 year old coffee addicted college student — I write stuff no one reads. Short little excerpts of my life. From the age of 2—17 I lived my life trying to please everyone else but myself. Before becoming one of those weird kids, I can barely remember what it was like to celebrate my birthday or holidays of course at the age of 1, do you really remember anything? But looking back at old photographs, I looked my happiest as a bright orange pumpkin in between my dad and my mom.
My parents divorced when I was around the age of 4, not entirely due to my mom completely doing a and dropping all her beliefs of catholicism for the JW lifestyle, but I can guess that was part of the reason. I lived with my mom, 3 younger siblings, both grandparents, even great grandmother for awhile , and 3 uncles in one house. No easter egg hunts or fireworks on fourth of July or New Years.
We had to go the the kingdom hall what was known as our church twice a week for meetings and once a week for preaching you know, knocking on your door at 9 in the morning , as well as having our own bible study at home as a family and another bible study with someone older from the congregation to grow and learn individually. Assembly days were when multiple congregations would come together for a day long meeting, usually from 8—5, including a lunch break.
Honestly, it was cult-y. None of the friends that you made could contact or see you, and here is where it gets cult-y, your family who were still apart of the religion, could no longer talk or see you either. They will get to have pet lions and elephants and Moses and Abraham and all those people you read about in the bible as a child will be alive again and your late loved ones will rise.
