This summer a new literature book appeared in my mailbox in the school office. The artwork and photography in new textbooks are much more colourful than they used to be. The layout of text and graphics are also very different than they were twenty-five years ago. Women and minority authors are more numerous than before. There were some stories which caught my eye because my classmates and I read them in English class. This also shows another change in schoolbooks.

You know, the whole two is better than one thing… A reader asked us about Bible study resources for single Christians. She wanted to know if we knew of any Bible studies that included dealing with loneliness and the pressure to be in relationships in order to have value. We did some digging, and we came up with some resources for those of you who are looking for similar studies.
Not all of these resources deal with the specific problems the reader asked about, but they are in the ballpark.

Then Lincoln gave Hooker the letter so that he could take it with him and ponder their conversation more thoroughly. Here was Lincoln the leader at his best. Express exactly what you expect! Why are gender roles so important in marriage? For one, God designed marriage, and when people do not follow his design, the marriage is destined for problems. It is important for us to know and follow his design, even when it is countercultural or contrary to what we are accustomed to. We can discern the importance of gender roles by considering the first marriage in the Garden of Eden.
Gender roles was essentially the first thing Satan attacked leading to the Fall.

We pine away waiting for the knight on the white horse or daydream about love that is never anything less than perfect. When you think of perfect love. While most of you probably said Cinderella and Prince Charming; when I think of perfect love, my thoughts turn to Adam and Eve. God made Eve especially for Adam. She was made for him and from him.
Just like many love stories today, I have never turned a pumpkin into a carriage and my husband has never trotted in on a white horse to save me from some wicked queen. However, I have turned lemons into lemonade many days and he makes the cutest neigh when he gives our kids piggyback rides around the front lawn. We bicker from time to time.

I remember going to a wedding, and watching the Bride and Groom participate in a “growing activity. it together as a couple, but not everyone will choose to do that. You and your marriage can grow even if only one of you reads the book. We sus-pect that as you practice what you learn in these pages, your spouse will notice the difference and may even ask to join you in reading the rest of the book.
When I was young, he drilled me on his favorite proverb: Before the collections of proverbs fashioned in the definition of the English term short, pithy sayings begin in chapter 10, chapters 1—9 form a cohesive, well-developed introductory series of lectures. Both wisdom and folly in the Hebrew language are feminine nouns. So the writer of this section used these words to evoke possible partners for a masculine addressee. Throughout Proverbs 1 —9, both Wisdom and Folly take turns declaring their attractions in a series of personified mating overtures.
The speeches are biased in favor of Wisdom, of course, for this is the thesis stated in Proverbs 1: The goal of Proverbs 1 —9 is to show us how godly wisdom merges with real life. Along the way we get principles for building strong marriages, families and work relationships.
Praying together as a couple by Steven P. I know one Christian brother who flat out refuses to pray together with his wife. He says he prays by himself, but he won’t pray together with his wife. Praying with his wife makes him feel too uncomfortable, so he won’t pray with her. I hate to say it, but his views are not uncommon.
Very few Christian couples actually take the time to pray together.
Loving Beyond Limits. 1 Corinthians – Love never fails. 1 Corinthians Perhaps you’ve heard someone in a failed relationship say, “We always loved each other, but we just couldn’t get along.” They may have loved much, but they didn’t know how to love well. First Corinthians 13 is great counsel on how to love well in marriage.
I drove from Houston to Austin with Josh, which was a great time by the way, and then we arrived in Austin in time to have supper with Ashley and some her friends from both high school and university. I then had the opportunity to travel back to Cypress from Austin with Mom which also was an amazing time. We had a great chance to talk about many things and one of the topics we talked about was how a couple of the guys and girls in the group seemed to be emotionally sad because of negative experiences with their Dad, or Moms, that were still having an impact on their own lives and happiness.
It is amazing how profoundly what we experience in love and relationships at home can influence our view on what things are going to be like in our own lives. One of the things that I continue to learn about as a parent is just how awesome a responsibility it is to be a parent. Now I know some of you may be thinking that this particular revelation comes a little late for someone who has been a parent for a little more than 26 years, but I think the learning as a parent never really stops.
I see the significant impact the parents have on their kids by the way they respond to relationship issues, difficult times in life and matters of trust and honesty. Failing to live up to God expectations in any of these areas not only can seriously impact and damage relationships for parents, but it has a trickledown effect that also has a negative influence on the kids. When a mom fails to be faithful to her marriage relationship I am absolutely sure she never considers the long term effect that decision will have on her kids but there in unquestionable evidence the impact can actually be greater on the children.
The same holds true for the Dad that fails to be truthful and honest in his relationships all because of what He believes is right for him, but that has fall out for generations to come. The unfortunate truth is that the indiscretions of the parents often only get magnified by what their kids end up facing in their own relationships. It is encouraging knowing that God can make all things new, but disheartening when you see how much pain and destruction the world is facing due to parents who fail to live love and commitment in their daily lives and end up multiplying issues in the lives of their kids.
It was great to read the following verses from Romans after dealing with the topics above because Christ does give us real hope. Fortunately we do have great hope.
